When the captain Roland and Julie hired bails on them at the last minute, Tia believes she's found what she would like to do on what would be a longer break: to captain the yacht for the dinner cruise summer season, which Roland and Julie openly welcome, but which Daniel feels less than thrilled in believing the entire business venture folly. Tia's dream of a great summer being on the open water is dashed when she discovers who Roland and Julie hired as the executive chef is Jake Jarrett, Roland and Julie unaware he being Tia's ex-boyfriend. Tia and Jake parted ways twelve years ago in following their respective career aspirations, Jake unwilling at the time to embark on a long distance relationship which broke Tia's heart. In feeling stifled at his last executive chef job, Jake is unwilling to forgo this job opportunity because of Tia, and visa versa with Tia despite the ill feeling that still exists on the surface between them. Jake and Tia have to navigate the waters of being colleagues, to potentially burying the hatchet to become friends again with possibly more as they discover they still have feelings for the other. What may prevent them from getting back together are Jake's old Nob Hill money friend, Bennett Jamiesen, who is interested in Tia himself, and/or other tempting professional opportunities, these only issues if they are unable or unwilling to tell the other their true feelings.

Gwen does end up seeing a vision of what she assumes is supposed to be her in ten years, that vision which is nothing at all as she had planned. Items in that vision that don't match her plan include living in the suburbs instead of in the city, having three kids and driving a minivan. But the most disturbing aspect of that vision is that she is not married to Alex, but to Dave, the caring creative director with who the ad agency has recently paired her on the commercial projects, Dave who she only knows casually. Slowly, things begin to happen in her current life that point to the vision being a reality for her future. As she and Dave become friends, feelings start to develop on both sides, with Dave not acting on those feelings as long as he knows Alex is still in her life. Gwen has to decide whether to stick to her plan or follow her heart, especially as Alex begins to work toward her plans, albeit solely for his own sake.

On the other hand, Nicole has oil in her blood, but she'll have to conquer her own self-doubt if she wants to be victorious. As Jake and Nicole work towards creating their respective olive oil submissions, while enjoying the annual Fall Festival as they do, they discover they may have more in common than they realized - and sparks begin to fly.

She started the school one year ago following a devastating break-up, and it was only supposed to be a side business while she focused on painting, but it has become her main business, she not having painted at all this year, or dated for that matter, and she is expanding the school with a second location, to be franchised, with the help of her retired father, David Spellman, doing much of the contract work, he seemingly as excited if not more in it preoccupying his time during retirement. Every year, Jamie has entered the Cherry Blossom Art Festival, the winner who receives a one person show in Paris, but has decided not to this year as she has not painted anything as a submission, and as she has always walked away empty handed. In feeling Jamie is straying from what she really wants in life, Ava Hughes, her longtime best friend, encourages Jamie to do what she herself did which believes got her own life to the point of getting everything she wanted, from a great fiancé in Tom to her dream job: create a vision board. From the vision board she creates, Jamie, following what she tells her students, pours her heart out onto a canvas, it ending up being one of her best works. It also shows her that she not only wants to enter the Art Festival again this year, but that she also wants romantic love back in her life. While she has to come up with a submission to impress the Festival organizer Renee, who finds her existing canvasses good but not heartfelt, Jamie also has to work on the second outlet of Canvas Creations, and really wants to discover the identity of the mystery man she has painted on that vision board translation. All indication is that man could be Michael Herman, one of her new adult students who ticks off all the proverbial boxes. However, she is surprised is that she is starting to have feelings for Ava's brother, Max Hughes, a landscape architect who has recently returned to town to start work as a groundskeeper at the local conservatory where the Art Festival is being held this year. The surprise for Jamie is that Max has always been a thorn in her side since they were children, he, from what she has heard from Ava, leading a relatively commitment-free life in moving from one thing to another when life gets too tough, Jamie afraid that while he seems to be showing interest in her in return that he may run away if things get too real.

Away for a romantic weekend where he had planned a grand gesture, Mick Turner and Olivia Pershing, co-proprietors of the Willow Lake Inn in Vermont, the inn's bread and butter business being weddings, are called back to the inn with the grand gesture having to wait when they learn that Olivia's daughter, Grace Pershing, to who Olivia gave her Long Island staging business in moving to Willow Lake, has showed up unexpectedly with her musician boyfriend, Eric Stratton, to announce their engagement. What Mick concurrently learns is that their next wedding clients - Abby Russo and Rob Atwell - have come a few days earlier than expected. While Mick, who has not worked directly on the wedding part of the business leaving such to Olivia, and to his daughter Julie before Olivia, vows to take care of Abby and Rob's wedding so that Olivia can focus on Grace and Eric, Olivia instead funnels all her A-type energies on Grace, turning into Motherzilla of the bride-to-be. Things between Olivia and Grace may get even more intense when Grace tells her the other news she has about what she intends to do when Eric and his band go on tour. What Mick does not anticipate in taking over whatever needs to be done for Abby and Rob is that Abby, from modest means marrying into an extremely wealthy family she does not know well, wants to make one change after another from her relatively simple but romantic initial wedding plans in wanting to impress the Atwells, especially when Rob's rather in-your-face younger sister, Kelsey Atwell, implies that "this is the way that it should be done" especially to match Rob and Kelsey's parents' wedding which was held at the inn years ago. Trying to impress may also change Abby's life aspirations in working as an artist full-time which is what she really wants instead of going back to law school which she almost completed before she had to drop out when her mother passed.
