Kate and Kevin's first chance meetings are antagonistic ones in each displaying her/his independent streak. But they are brought together when some anonymous person is sending them on a joint Christmas mission in the form of rhyming couplet Christmas riddles and followup tasks, they both intrigued by the riddles and the identity of the anonymous sender. As they embark on this mission, they start to fall for each other, which makes them both consider settling in Cedar Falls, something furthest from their minds when they first arrived. Their individual professional paths may factor into if there is a possible happily-ever-after for them.

Her wish: to have a Merry Christmas like she used to before her mother passed three years ago, Max's father, Lucas, who has not been able to get into the Christmas spirit since in missing his wife, Stephanie. Lucy making as public a declaration of highlighting Max's wish as the focus for the Project this year is before Lucy learns that Lucas had no idea that Max either had this wish or was going to make such a public declaration. Despite not wanting to be the focus of the town, Lucas feels that he has no other choice but to indulge Max in this very public granting of her wish. As Lucy goes about trying to make Max remember the joys of Christmas, especially with her mother no longer alive, Max decides to alter her wish in making it a Merry Christmas equally for her and for her father. In the process, Max may get that additional wish in Lucas and Lucy falling for each other. But a Merry Christmas this year may be in jeopardy if their mutual feelings are overtaken by both not yet being ready to open their hearts romantically, for Lucas in not wanting to forget Stephanie, and for Lucy in not wanting to be hurt again as was the case in the dissolution of her first marriage.

One of Allison's passions in that latter category is to stop the demolition of the largely natural Fountain Green Park, one of her favorite places, the edge of the park where the food truck, called C'est Si Bon, is often located, to be replaced by a shopping development. She is protesting largely against the developer: Peyton Enterprises. In his attraction to her, Sean does not tell her who he really is, he letting her assume he being a working class stiff like her. In Sean's pursuit of Allison, he may find some passions in life, but they may be threatened, including a relationship with Allison, when he has to come clean to her about who he is, she who is already suspicious of men in general having been hurt in a previous serious relationship. Meanwhile, Allison's best friend, Beth, who is also working to stop the park development, is torn between two men: Caden, who she has just started dating despite they seemingly having no common interests; and Pascal, who has just joined in the fight against the park development and with who she seems to have everything in common.

Funny Story

Glad to be able to see her again, he accepts the invite and travels to her house in the woods with her cute friend, Kim, with whom he has sex in the heat of the moment after a drunk karaoke night in a bar. However, when he later realizes in shock that she is actually the girl his daughter is suppose to marry, he becomes deeply conflicted about whether or not they should come clean and admit their one night stand to Nic, which Kim is decisively against. Deep in her heart, Chloe already believes she's gone as far as she can go in the restaurant business without being a restaurant owner herself, but without knowing what any alternative as a career for which she has equal passion would be. She, along with the winery management team, learn that Truman's news is that, following the death of his wife - Chloe's mother - he has decided to retire. With Chloe having her own career, he has also decided to sell the winery, the most likely candidate being one of the mass producing manufacturers, New York City-based Stratosphere, sell to a company like that Truman said he would never do. Conversely, Stratosphere wants this acquisition to have one of the most respected family-owned boutique wineries under its umbrella. The Stratosphere representative who will lead the negotiations is Seth Anderson, a city boy who knows nothing about wines, but knows business, he coming back with a deal which is a prerequisite to a promotion to VP. Chloe doesn't dislike Seth per se but wouldn't trust anyone in his position where the deal would be all about business and nothing about the passion behind the wine. While butting heads with Seth, Chloe begins an increasing flirtation of sorts with whoever is renting the Grange family cottage, the person who has taken it upon himself to do minor repairs around the cottage. The renter and Chloe leave each other messages on the kitchen blackboard, the renter signing his messages "handyman" and Chloe signing her messages "in need of repair". What Chloe does not know is that "handyman" is actually Seth, who in turn does not know that "in need of repair" is Chloe. In this situation, both Chloe and Seth may come to a realization of what they consider important in life, for Chloe also including what her next career move should be, which may not be as easy to achieve as just wanting it.

HDIt's the Valentine's Day weekend. Mick Turner and Olivia Pershing of the Willow Lake Inn, which is doing booming business in their bread and butter of weddings, are taking a break if only to spend a romantic weekend together, beyond preparing for the Valentine's Day benefit concert at which Mick and his band will be performing, Mick who has a special surprise prepared for Olivia at the concert. Their romantic weekend is put on hold with the unexpected arrival of three couples. The first is Olivia's thrice divorced, hyper-critical mother Nora Winters, and her current boyfriend, Johnny. Nora, who disliked Mick when he and Olivia dated in college but who had changed her opinion of him when they recently reunited, may have changed her mind once again in believing that Olivia is "settling" in she and Mick not having gotten married, something Nora felt the need to tell Olivia in person. The second is Mick's daughter, Julia Turner, and her boyfriend, Wyatt. Julia's surprise visit home in the middle of the school year is to inform her father that she intends not to return to school after completion of this current semester, in favor of pursuing her dream of becoming a chef. She ultimately hopes to work at the inn, but if Mick won't let her in he not agreeing with her decision, she vows to get chef work elsewhere. In the ultimate disagreement on the issue between Julie and Mick, she may have forgotten one important person, Wyatt who believes their relationship cannot withstand the long distance as he still has two years until graduation. And third is Mick's younger sister, Bonnie Turner, a London-based couture retailer who says she is bringing someone with her. Bonnie doesn't say who that person is, her fiancé Sean, they who want to have a small ceremony on Valentine's at the inn. The reason for that secrecy until their arrival is that Mick and Sean have a history: Sean was once Mick's band mate, Sean who walked out on the band leaving them high and dry for a series of concerts. Mick has not forgiven Sean in the intervening twenty years. In seeing Sean now, Mick can't help but see something that gives him an aching suspicion that Sean is up to no good and will ultimately hurt Bonnie. Mick may or may not be looking for something that isn't there in it being Sean, but if he tells Bonnie his feelings, it may irreparably damage their relationship.
