As they are forced to spend concentrated time together in their week in Mistletoe, as they learn about why the other is the way he/she is including Brian's aversion to Christmas, and as they partake in Mistletoe's Christmas traditions together, they change the way they view each other, both professionally and personally. Then Brian's actress girlfriend Christy arrives in Mistletoe with unexpected news about his possible future job--and the town's handsome deputy-mayor James seems to be showing romantic interest in Mel. and with what looks like Beyond if they are able to open up to the other about their new feelings, they, in potentially staying together as a professional team in addition to embarking on a personal relationship, have the obstacles of Christy, Brian's actress girlfriend who arrives in Mistletoe both unexpectedly and with unexpected news about his possible new job--and the town's handsome deputy-major James seems to be interested in Mel.

As they embark on this mission, they start to fall for each other, which makes them both consider settling in Cedar Falls, something furthest from their minds when they first arrived. Their individual professional paths may factor into if there is a possible happily-ever-after for them.

August 2019. Frank recognizes his own story of twenty years ago in a recently published book. He remembers Marie, with whom he had a relationship before she moved to the United States and disappeared from his life. He sets out in search of her and finds himself in a USA petrified by a heat wave and lost in suspicion and political paranoia. He heads into the desert in pursuit of Marie. On his way he meets Liz, the literary agent and Nina, a sex worker who services her clients in elaborate scenarios and films the encounters. Nina feels attracted to Frank in a strange way. He starts to work for her as a cameraman. She sometimes performs with another young woman who very much resembles Marie, prompting even more tedious fugue-state philosophizing.

Helen, Henry and the other shop staff - her maternal Aunt Carol, and a new employee named Beth - go on a quest to find Helen's mystery man to match the mystery rose. Through the process, Helen wants those magical signs to tell her that the risks she is taking will end up with this mystery man being her true love. What Helen may find is that the signs are a little more subtle and may point somewhere closer to home.
