Approaching their senior years, British sisters Sandra and Bif have been estranged for ten years because of their differences. Sandra, newly minted Lady Abbott in her lawyer husband Mike Abbott having been knighted, does whatever needed to present a perfect upper crust life and marriage, including maintaining a proper decorum. Older Bif is the carefree one, living for the moment, including not caring that her council estate apartment in inner city London is a pigsty, just as long as she can find whatever she needs. While Sandra has no place for someone like Bif in her life, Bif laments what Sandra has become when she married Mike, Sandra once having had a real zest for life. When Sandra learns first hand that Mike has been having an affair for five years with one of her closest friends Pamela and eventually asks for a divorce in wanting to marry Pamela, Sandra, feeling like her planned retirement life with Mike has been pulled out from under her, turns to Bif for emotional support in not being able to turn to any of her friends in the shame. While Bif does whatever she can to accommodate Sandra, Sandra feels like a fish out of water in Bif's environs, which includes the adult community dance class she attends and which is populated by who are her closest friends. Among those is Charlie Glover, who, like Sandra, is going through a relationship crossroads in his marriage as his institutionalized wife Lilly is slowly slipping away from him with her Alzheimer's. In finally opening up to the joys of the dance and making connections with Bif's friends including Charlie, Sandra will have to evaluate her life in its entirety including if she is ready to put her upper crust life behind her and embrace a new life with someone caring like Charlie. Bif going through her own challenges may provide a deeper perspective for Sandra in what she really wants.

The special opens on the Haddock family in their living room and Hiccup preparing to light the fire. Zephyr and Nuffink run off to feed the dragons while Astrid says she's going to go make some Yaknog and steps off screen. Unable to get the fire started, Hiccup grumbles until a fireball flies in from the right and ignites the wood in the fireplace. Hiccup thanks Astrid for starting the fire, and steps off screen. Snow can be seen falling through the windows. Gobber soon appears and puts a cauldron of his mutton soup on the fire for Snoggletog dinner. As it's cooking, characters step on and off screen...

It's the festival of Snoggletog on New Berk, but Hiccup isn't feeling the holiday spirit. First, he misses his friend Toothless; second, he has just found out that his daughter Zephyr and his son Nuffink have found Stoick's old journals (written before Vikings and dragons became friends) and now believe that all dragons are dangerous and should be destroyed. To help him possibly change their minds, Astrid suggests reviving the old traditions of Snoggletog, including a play in which Stoick the Vast's memory will be honored and (perhaps) the children's minds changed. Meanwhile on the Hidden World island, Toothless, through the use of sand drawings, tells his three Night Light children about his best friend Hiccup, inspiring them to make a secret flight to New Berk to see for themselves.

Long ago up North on the Island of Berk, the young Viking, Hiccup, wants to join his town's fight against the dragons that continually raid their town. Regardless, Hiccup ventures out into battle and downs a mysterious Night Fury dragon with his invention, but can't bring himself to kill it. But even as the two each take flight in their own way, they find that they must fight the destructive ignorance plaguing their world.

He isn't able to do so officially, so with Jeff largely by his side, he must find a way to honor his father's last wishes.
