A couple checks into a suite in Las Vegas. In flashbacks we see that he's a computer whiz on the verge of becoming a dot.com millionaire, she's a lap dancer at a club. He wants a connection, so he offers her $10,000 to spend three nights with him in Vegas, and she accepts with conditions: four hours per night of erotic play, and no penetration. During the days in Vegas, they get to know each other, have fun, meet a friend of hers; at night, at least after the first night, things seem to get complicated. Is mutual attraction stirring? Will they play by their rules? Can it be about more than money?

It is 1939, the end of three years of bloody civil war in Spain, and General Franco's right-wing Nationalists are poised to defeat the left-wing Republican forces. A ten-year-old boy named Carlos, the son of a fallen Republican war hero, is left by his tutor in an orphanage in the middle of nowhere. The orphanage is run by a curt but considerate headmistress named Carmen and a kindly Professor Casares, both of whom are sympathetic to the doomed Republican cause. Despite their concern for him, and his gradual triumph over the usual schoolhouse bully, Carlos never feels completely comfortable in his new environment. First of all, there was that initial encounter with the orphanage's nasty caretaker, Jacinto, who reacts even more violently when anyone is caught looking around a particular storage room the one with the deep well. Second, and more inexplicable, is the presence of a ghost, one of the former occupants of the orphanage named Santi. Not long after Carlos' arrival, Santi latches onto Carlos, badgering him incessantly at night and gloomily intoning, "Many of you will die." As if that wasn't enough to keep the orphanage's occupants in an unrelenting state of terror, there's the un-exploded bomb that dominates the orphanage's courtyard, still ticking away; With the orphanage left defenseless by its isolation, and the swift progression of Franco's troops, the ghost's prediction seems depressingly accurate. Nevertheless, with every step of the plot, it becomes apparent that the ghost's predictions as to who (or what) will die, the real source of danger and even the definition of death itself may be more ambiguous than first thought.

(4) "Little Bomb": A demolition engineer has his car towed by a truck for parking in a wrong place and he has an argument with the employee of the towing company. This event destroys his private and professional life, and he plots revenge against the corrupt towing company and the city hall. (5) "The Proposal": A reckless son of a wealthy family has an overnight hit-and-run accident, in which a pregnant woman gets killed. He wakes his parents up and his father calls the lawyer. The parents propose to pay the groundkeeper to take the blame for the boy. Soon the father discovers that he is a victim of extortion of his lawyer and the public prosecutor in charge of the investigation. What will be his decision? (6) "Until Death Do Us Apart": During the wedding party, the bride discovers that her newlywed husband has been cheating on her with one of the guests, and she decides to pay him back.

Sarah (Roxanne Pallett) has just moved into a block of flats to start a new life away from her abusive mother. There, she strikes up an unconventional friendship with squatter Sid (Jason Mewes). When Sid's friend Paul goes missing, he and Sarah unearth a series of strange deaths and disappearances. Watched by a malevolent spirit controlling the building's televisions and cameras, reality and fantasy merge as events are twisted into a sick movie on a TV set high in the block of flats. Sid and Sarah are thrown into a fight for survival when the vengeful ghost controlling a horde of zombies possesses Sarah's mother (Frances Ruffelle). Evil suddenly has a familiar face.

In eastern Pennsylvania, Marcus believes in doomsday and has long prepared for it. He has instilled this belief in his adult children Geoff and Melissa, although Melissa has quietly rebelled in some of the "soldier" training, preferring rather to do things like sing in the church choir. Marcus also has a small following. This preparedness does not help Marcus as when a large radioactive meteor hits the area, he is caught outside the sealed bunker, while Geoff, Melissa and most of his followers make it to safety inside. Fast forward ten years. Most of those inside the bunker are still alive and have not left it not knowing definitively what has happened outside. But some are forced to go outside when something happens to one of the bunker's exterior solar panels, which must be repaired within three days for their survival. A small team, including Geoff and Melissa, volunteer not only to go outside to repair the panel, but to survey their exterior surroundings. Outside, they find that the world has turned into a desert wasteland seemingly devoid of any life. They soon discover however that the radioactivity, which has dissipated, has not killed everyone but has turned some of those exposed to it into killer mutants. They will also discover the hard way that the there are different levels of mutancy depending on the level of radioactive exposure. In dealing with the mutants in which they get a little unexpected help from a preacher, they also learn that there is a place in this outside world called Haven which truly is a sanctuary where they can survive outside the bunker. They have to try to make their way to Haven while dealing with the killer mutants, which may include some friends and other loved ones from their pre-meteor life.

It's the winter of 1933 in Winnipeg. In honor of Winnipeg being named the sorrow capital of the world for the Depression era for the fourth year running by the London Times, Lady Helen Port-Huntley, the legless owner of Winnipeg's Port-Huntley Beer, is hosting and judging a contest to see which nation has the saddest music in the world, the winner to take home a $25,000 prize. Seeing as to the current Prohibition in the United States, Lady Port-Huntley has ulterior motives for the contest. Father and son, streetcar conductor Fyodor Kent and New York based musical producer Chester Kent, who both have a past connection to Lady Port-Huntley (Fyodor, a WWI veteran and former doctor, has fashioned for her an unusual pair of artificial legs apropos to her business), want to represent Canada and the United States respectively in the contest. Despite Lady Port-Huntley's hatred for the Kent's, she does allow them to do so if only to advance her own priorities. As the contest takes place, the Kents, who also include Fyodor's other son/Chester's brother, Roderick Kent (who wants to represent Serbia in the contest, as his missing wife is Serbian), deal with their collective sorrow and family dysfunction, the latter issue which involves Chester's current girlfriend, an amnesiac named Narcissa.

In April 1805 during the Napoleonic Wars, H.M.S. Surprise, a British frigate, is under the command of Captain Jack Aubrey. Aubrey and the Surprise's current orders are to track and capture or destroy a French privateer named Acheron. The Acheron is currently in the Atlantic off South America headed toward the Pacific in order to extend Napoleon's reach of the wars.
